How to be More Productive
Are you an productive person? Productive people know how to gets things done efficiently and quickly.
Here are some tips that can help you be more productive:
- Reduce Distractions – Unless you are good at multitasking turn off television or the radio if you want to concentrate and get things done quickly. Sometimes you need time to turn off your telephone. If you have an email program that alerts you when new emails arrive, turn it off!
- Do the hard tasks first – When you first start work you are usually at your most energetic. Use this time to complete your hardest task of the day. It will get it out of the way and your sense of achievement will carry you through the rest of the day.
- Be goal orientated – Set yourself clear and achievable goals. Do at least one task each day that advances you towards completion of your goal.
- Learn when to rest – You do not work very well when you are over tired. Recognise when it is time to stop – even when you are in the middle of an important project. Often resting for a while then continuing a task means that the task gets done quicker.
- Learn to delegate – The best managers know which tasks need doing personally and which can be delegated. Resist the urge to do everything yourself.
- Organize your tools – Your work probably requires tools – paper, pens, computers, phones in the office or hammers, chisels and nails if you are a construction worker. Organize your tools so that you can find them easily. Give everything its place so that everything is easy accessible.
- Be encouraged by your successes – Regard every task completed during the day as a success. Congratulate yourself for a job well done. You will the stay positive and motivated throughout the day.
- Learn when to de-stress – If you find yourself suffering from stress, stop and go for a walk or a jog. Take your mind away from your work and enjoy the fresh air. Or learn self massage and meditation techniques.
- Learn good communication skills – If a manager or work colleague gives you a job to do make sure that you listen carefully to what needs doing and ask questions about any aspect of the task that you are unclear about. Bad communication leads to confusion and you may find yourself having to do a job more than once because you did not understand clearly what needed doing.
