Six Tips to Deal With Stress
There are two types of stress, short term and long term. Short term stress includes situations like watching a sporting event, being startled when a car suddenly backfires, or jogging a few miles. After the event is over there is no long lasting effect. Research has shown that short term stress is good for you. Life without challenges and excitement is a dull life.
Long term stress is when you experience stress conditions for a large part of the day. This can be in response to such things as a difficult job, or a failing relationship. How do you deal with long term stress? Here are six strategies:
- Concentrate your efforts on doing something about the causes of your stress e.g. look for another job.
- Talk to someone about what you are going through
- Take physical exercise
- Indulge in a pleasant experience such as going to a movie or out for a picnic.
- Try to look for something positive in your experience. If the stress is due to a stressful job then the positive thing is that you could get a much better job.
- Learn to accept your situation. Acceptance is often the first step to change something.
Positive Psychology looks at the positive factors that contribute to happiness. It also examines the negative things that stop you being happy. Stress is one of these obstacles.
Another thing that you can try is to learn how to meditate. My next blog will look at how to meditate.

One of the reasons why I am “The Happiest Person I Know” is because many years ago I learned to meditate. This practice changed my life, and since teaching meditation, I have seen it change the lives of my students. Stress is a blight on our society, but the sad part is we don’t have to tolerate it! Far too many people reach for a pill or a bottle, or worse, when feeling stressed. If more people followed your advice, our planet would be vastly different. I am on a mission to get the whole world meditating, as I know the power this simple practice has to change lives.
Live Life Happy!
